Course of fire

Cores of fire will be called out by Van Dorsten Custom firearms draw of one of the card from the dead man’s deck

Rifle setup and restrictions.

This competition is for bolt action and lever action rifles only.  Setup in Scout or Practical rifle configurations. Centerfire rifle cartridges only. No restriction on caliber.   Rifles should be lightweight and compact with a short barrel, but any hunting type rifle is acceptable. No precision type rifles. Detachable magazine is acceptable, but you are restricted to no more than 5 rounds in the magazine and no more than 5 rounds in the gun total.  22 caliber rimfire bolt action or lever action can be used for youth shooters that would like to compete and will be ranked in a separate category.

Sights and optics.

Fixit low power and Low power variable optics only with no more than 5x magnification. Scopes can be in the Scout or standard positions on the rifle. Backup iron sights are recommended, we will be having iron sight only shoots. When shooting at 25 or 50 yards no more than 2.5x magnification can be used. If your scope has more than 5x magnification you are limited to 5x during the shoot.

Shooting distances

The minimum shooting distance will be 25 yards, If the card drawn lists a distance under 25 yards we will use 25 yards as the set distance. If the card drawn has a drill that requires you to move closer or further from the target we will not do that part of the drill. This is to allow people to use public ranges that do not let you run that kind of drill.

Shooting positions.

Shooting will be in field positions. Positions will be called out by the card drawn. Off hand/standing, Kneeling also rice paddy prone and sitting are accepted, Prone position. No bipods or shooting off bags. Field using sling only.

Scoring

Any shot within the designated target is worth 10 points. Any shot that is on the edge or with in a 1/2 inch of the edge is worth 5 points Any shot that is outside of the 1/2 inch gets no points.  The fastest time will be given 10 points. All times after that will be given reduced points based on the difference between their time and the fastest. Example if the fastest time is 3.5 seconds and your time is 4.75 seconds you will get 6.43 points based off of the percentage of the difference.

  1. First: work out the difference (increase) between the two numbers you are comparing.
  2.  Increase = New Number - Original Number. Then: divide the increase by the original number and multiply the answer by 100.
  3.  % increase = Increase ÷ Original Number × 100.
  4.  4.75-3.5=1.25
  5. 1.25/ 3.5= 0.357
  6.  0.357x100=35.7% 0.357x10=3.57 10-3.57= 6.43
  7.  6.43 points for your time.
